This is not to be missed!

Come support CenterStage’s amazing educational programs at the first ever “Single in the City” bachelor/bachelorette auction event brought to you by Bravo! Young Professionals of CenterStage. I have had the pleasure of working with the Bravo! Team on this fantastic event – it is going to be a blast!
When: Saturday, May 19th
VIP portion starts at 6pm, the rest starts at 7pm (live auction at 8pm)
The title might be a bit misleading to any non-singles of the city, but fear not, this event will be fun for singles AND married couples. Many of the date packages that will come with some of these bachelors and bachelorettes are for groups of 4 or more (and lemme tell you, these date packages are AWESOME). If I could, I’d bid on every single one of them!
Last night, at Bistro Bobette (one of CenterStage’s restaurant sponsors and also my favorite French restaurant in town), hosted a cocktail party for us to meet the bachelors and bachelorettes. I was so impressed by the talent, beauty, and generosity found throughout the room. These folks are fabulous people of Richmond and you should definitely come to the event so you can meet them all!
If bidding on a live person makes you nervous, not a problem! There is also an exquisite silent auction portion of the evening featuring many amazing packages and items from around Richmond and beyond. These include restaurants, local cultural events, duck hunting (yep.. you read that right), jewelry, spa certificates, and SO MUCH MORE! You could walk away with a great date package for you and your sweetie or for you and your friends!
Get your tickets soon, they’re selling fast! $60 VIP tix, $30 advanced regular tix, or $35 at the door. CLICK HERE TO PURCHASE THEM NOW!!!

Fifty years ago photographer Joel Meyerowitz began his career as a “street photographer” and an early advocate of color photography. With his work on view in VMFA’s Visions of France special exhibition, Meyerowitz will discuss his enduring attraction to both the landscape of France and the French photographic tradition.
He will also show some of the work he has produced in France, both in the early sixties and more recently, as well as selections from his upcoming retrospective book, Taking My Time.
It’s supposed to hit the 90s this weekend… so if you’re not yet ready for such heat, seek refuge in the air-conditioned and beautiful Carpenter Theater and treat your ears to some most excellent music!

The Mourners: Tomb Sculptures from the Court of Burgundy Through Sunday
Among the masterpieces of late medieval sculpture in Europe, theelaborate tombs of the dukes of Burgundy were originally housed in a monastic complex outside Dijon, France. Sculpted figures of the deceased rulers lay in state atop the tombs, while below, a procession of mourning figures appeared to slip in and out of the arcades of an elaborate gothic cloister.
In the early 19th century, the tombs were moved to the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Dijon and renovations allowed a selection of the mourners to travel to eight museums within France and the United States. “Each is a small masterpiece of stone carving and humanist realism,” wrote a New York Times reviewer, when the exhibition was at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2010. When these sculptures return to the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Dijon this year, they will be permanently repositioned in the tomb setting. If you don’t want to make a trip to France, don’t miss The Mourners at VMFA! Free.

Not only do we have street art going up everywhere around Richmond and tattoo talks selling out at VMFA…
another interesting event is happening that should be a blast:
reIMAGINEd - a steam punk inspired event - by the Atlantic Chamber Ensemble
Happening at Gallery 5 on Saturday April 7, 8pm
Tickets are $10, $7 for students
They’re encouraging audience members to wear steam punk attire. You don’t have to tell me twice! I’ll be hitting up the thrift stores to see what I can find.
The Atlantic Chamber Ensemble is a really neat organization of young professional musicians from the Richmond Area. Their concerts are usually one-of-a-kind experiments that allow audiences to experience music in a variety of ways.

We’ve all heard the buzz about Richmond being the 3rd most tattooed city in the country (surpassing Portland, OR, Los Angeles and San Francisco, and more!!).
(Click here for more info about THAT).
Even more extraordinary (in my humble opinion) is that our very own VMFA recognizes the importance of tattoos in our great city and is presenting a lecture entitled:
The Art of Tattoo - featuring tattoo artist Amy Black and VMFA’s Assistant Curator of Ancient American Art Lee Anne Chesterfield.
Tomorrow (Thursday) March 28, from 6:30pm - 7:30pm in the Reynolds Lecture Hall (in the Lower Level of VMFA)

Amy Black (photo by Ash Daniels)
Sounds like this will be a great conversation about elevating tattooing to its well deserved status as a fine art. This will include discussions about Amy Black’s artistic process, experiences, along with insights from Lee Anne Chesterfield about the long history of tattooing and the meanings behind some works of art used in tattoos.
Don’t miss this one-of-a-kind talk that is sure to shake things up a bit around here!
Tickets are only $8 ($5 if you’re a member) (or call 804-340-1405)
Remember, if you’re a student, get a student membership for only $10!!
The murals brought to us by the G40 Art Summit are starting to pop up all over the place!
With this gorgeous spring weather, take a minute to walk around downtown and seek out these great new works of art. Muralists will be working throughout the city over the next few weeks and you’ll have a chance to see the process as well as the final product!
Check out a great article from the Richmond Times Dispatch here:
Giant murals project under way in downtown Richmond.
Also be sure to check out the muralists’ schedules as they paint the town up and down! RVAMag has all the info: http://rvamag.com/articles/full/14346/who-what-where-the-g40-mural-painting-schedule
I’m hoping to go check these out this weekend and will try to post some pictures next week!
